Editorial Letter
The people behind the ribbons
Most of what is written about show jumping lists results and moves on. The sport deserves more than that: the same visual and editorial standard that fashion and lifestyle media take for granted.
The Rein is a magazine for everything around the ribbons. The riders and horses at the top of the sport, the people who get them there, and style treated as part of the story rather than an afterthought.
Issue 00 carries the full lineup we plan for every season: a long-form feature interview, the Style Guide, our Top 7 riders and horses, The Circuit Report and short conversations with voices the sport rarely hears from.

The Style Guide
Fall/Winter Color Pairings
Four ways to put a top and breeches together for the colder months, taken from riders already wearing them well.
Taupe and white
A warm neutral top keeps show whites from looking stark. Black boots, brown bridle.
Ivory and stone
Softer than white on white, and stone breeches forgive arena dust.
Black on black
The cleanest choice for schooling at home, and striking on a grey horse.
Color-block and light grey
A black and white top reads sharply from the stands; grey breeches soften it.
The Style Guide
The Hairnet, Step by Step
- [Photo]
1. Brush your hair back and tie it in a low ponytail at the nape of your neck.
2. Pull the hairnet over your head so its edge sits just along your hairline.
3. Twist the ponytail, fold it up against the back of your head and hold it flat.
4. Gather the loose net over the twist so every strand sits inside.
5. Put on your helmet and tuck the edge of the net neatly underneath.
